Pre-Analytics – Intake Specialist (Full Time)
Position Overview:
The Intake Specialist engages in accurate and timely data entry of specimen into the laboratory information management system (LIMS); place calls to clients in order to obtain missing information and assist client with sample requirements and processing.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:
- Minimum education includes a high school diploma or equivalent work experience
- At least 6 months experience with healthcare demographic and/or insurance data entry
- Able to type 8000+ keystrokes per hour
- Attention to detail, accuracy, time management and organizational skills
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the field of healthcare insurance and specimen collection and processing
- Ability to maintain strict HIPAA compliance
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, work under pressure and a commitment to achieving customer satisfaction
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products to include Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to communicate well through written and verbal means
- Regular office attendance is essential
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:
- Associate Degree in chemistry or biology
- At least 1-year experience with healthcare demographic and/or insurance data entry
- Previous medical laboratory specimen processing and/or billing experience is preferred
- Previous medical administration and/or medical office training
- ICD-9/ICD-10 coding training and data entry experience
- Working knowledge of major insurance payers and their websites
Essential Functions/Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
- Responsible for maintaining the policies, procedures, and quality control practices to assure compliance with CLIA, CAP and other regulatory requirements within the assigned scope of laboratory management
- Accession samples into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Accurately and efficiently enter required patient and specimen information into LIMS system
- Maintain proficiency in the demographic and order entry within and billing platform
- Document and communicate missing information; facilitate process to obtain necessary information with client
- Accession patient specimens according to SZLS standard operating procedures, with strict adherence to established Quality Assurance standards
- Review orders and records to assure accuracy as part of the Quality Assurance process
- Respond to general inquiries made by clients in regards to specimen processing in a prompt and efficient manner
- Respond professionally and courteously to all client requests via phone, fax and e-mail
- Perform duties related to problem discovery and resolution and works closely with the supervisory staff of pre-analytical, customer service, laboratory and other departments
- Aliquot, store, and retrieve patient specimens using sample tracking programs
- Prepare, package and print shipping label for send out samples
- FLSA Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt
- May require some work on nights and weekends
